Flowers...

With the flower

I hide myself within my flower,

That wearing on your breast,

You, unsuspecting, wear me too -

And angels know the rest.

I hide myself within my flower,

That, fading from your vase,

You, unsuspecting, feel for me

Almost a loneliness.

I have always loved this poem from Emily Dickinson and everytime I take pictures of flowers I think of it :) To me flowers represent the soft (female) side of life. Sensual and mystical, with their incredible colours and velvet petals.

There is a fairy tale called Thumbelina by Hans Christian Andersen and it was my favourite story as a child. Every time when I was scared or insecure I just pretended to step inside a giant flower. The petals would gentle close around me and I would be safe :) Even now thirty years later it still works hihi.

Here a part of this wonderful fairy tale of Andersen; "It is a beautiful flower,” said the woman, and she kissed the red and golden-colored leaves, and while she did so the flower opened, and she could see that it was a real tulip. Within the flower, upon the green velvet stamens, sat a very delicate and graceful little maiden. She was scarcely half as long as a thumb, and they gave her the name of “Thumbelina,” or Tiny, because she was so small."

After all these years I still can look in the centre of a flower and see a tiny person sleep between the stames. Take care and I wish you a beautiful day with lots of flowers to step into :)))

Sas, you outdo yourself with every post. I loved this one. So warm, sensitive and tender...just like the flowers you photograph so beautifully. I should try the Thumbelina trick sometime :). It was my favorite fairy tale as a child and had a lovely board book of this story. I should hunt the book out next time I am at my parents' home. Your post rekindled many childhood memories..life seemed so simple then. Thanks for bringing a smile to my face.
have a nice day.

Sas, thanks for the encouragement. Inspite of not being as good as you in taking flower pics, I keep taking them anyway! It's just so much fun and I can't get enough of nature photography. In fact, when I paint, I only paint nature scenes...keep inspiring me!
