The plan for today was to help my mother paint but I am in a very slow Sunday mood :) So I decided to help her tomorrow, hopefully fresh and full of energy. Fortunately my mother didn't mind and told me to make it a divine lazy day and that is exactly what I am doing. I am in the mood for something special that will help me to relax. And I know what to do; burn some incense :)
How I love to do this! It is such a relaxing ritual; to watch the round charcoal burn and to choose the incenses. I have gathered different ingredients like amber, sandalwood, benzoic and sandarac. They have a lovely aroma, which brings back memories of a distant past.
Doing this makes me peaceful inside and stimulates me to make my head clear. Not to think about my daily life but only to watch the smoke find its way through my room. The lovely aroma of the incense enables me to drift away. For just one moment I am not captured in my head but floating around like a leaf in a river :)

What relaxing and peaceful post. Literally I could smell the fragrance after seeing those beautiful pictures of yours. It amazes me that in spite of posting so many pictures and writing posts on so many different topics you always manage to keep the same color palate (which I absolutely adore)and same amber glow to your blog.
And Sas where do you get all those scented coals to burn? I have never seen them anywhere. Is it a part of Turkish culture? It looks so mesmerizing and soothing.

The charcoals I use are not scented and very practical. I buy them at the Turkish supermarket near my house. The owners sell them to inflame Turkish water pipes.
I have spotted these charcoals on the internet too. The incense warehouse also sells all kinds of resin incense to put on the charcoal.
I don't know why I like to burn incense so much because I don't have a specific cultural background. I guess it is something in my personality just like my love for colours.

Very nice link sas.They seem to have all kinds of incense. I didn't know each country had one of its own. We learn something new each day.
With the advent of room freshners and areosol sprays this feels like such a refreshing change to freshen up a room and uplift the spirits. Going back to the basics aren't we?
Your Turkish supermarket seems to carry all sorts of lovely things. I am so curious to find out how it is.

you are right about going back to the basics. Nature provides us with beautiful scents and aromas; why trying to put that in a spray, let's use the original!
My Turkish supermarket has not a very special ambiance but the owners are very friendly and I love their assortment :)

I only burn incense in sticks. Perhaps I can find some which are like what you have...hmmmm'..It would be fun to do what you did :>

But I still can't get over the fact that the turkish store you go to sell such huge jars of olives. Wow.. I am so used to seeing tiny
8 oz jars that the big huge bottle of green olives on your kitchen shelf just made my day.;)

wow. I love the way you have written this post- I feel relaxed just reading it. I have so much to learn from you. I sometimes feel I must do a lot more conscious relaxing- especially during my weekends.
One more thing- I was reading your exchanges with Vinita, and thinking that I have never met another non-Indian with as Indian soul as yours :)
Yes Vineeta I too feel the same way after visiting her blog everyday. In fact when you had posted her pictures on your blog for the first time thats the question which arose in my mind and had asked her what attracts her to indian culture?
Because for me I have this strange attraction for Japanese culture. I have never visited japan but everytime i go to a bookstore I pick up some book on japan. The pull of the heart and the tug at the soul. And I really can't explain it.
