Daily life

Today I wasn't feeling well. I think a small flue lies in wait for me. Flue always reminds me of my childhood... when I was ill my mother used to make me a bed on the couch. This way I could stay with her all day and sleep in between :)

As a young child I was a real dreamer who loved to stay at home while the other children were playing outside. I could spend hours looking at little insects and flowers. Life was one great discovery and I still have the feeling that there is so much more to reveal.

I love the beauty of the daily life and in times when I am ill they comfort me with their beauty. While lying on the couch the living room suddenly seems different and normal items become special.
It feels like every little thing has a secret life that reveals itself when you place it outside its daily location. In a different light or with a new background it will look completely different and intriguing again.

When you look at things at close quarters they will show their beautiful details and hidden colours. I love the feeling I get when I look at a macro from a daily life item. Like looking at it for the first time.

So far this post for today, I loved to share today's "flue discoveries" with you and I hope you enjoyed it too. Have yourself a lovely revealing day and take care :))

Have a lovely weekend :)

Today a tiny post just to wish you a lovely weekend and to share this flower pictures with you. These bushes grow in my garden and to my shame I must admit that I don't know their name. But they are beautiful and always the first to blossom in the spring :)
The branches look lovely with their fragile flowers on a row. Soon they will all show their little flower faces in one great sea of yellow :)Pork and I are staying with Toek in his home for a couple of days and I hope that when I return they will be waiting for me in state :)

So far this little share post, I hope you will have a lovely creative weekend with lots of yellow and warmth. Take care :))

Flower arrangements; Hyacinths part 2

Is has been a few days since the last pictures of the Hyacinths and their colour has changed from bright blue into violet. They still scent lovely and the fragrance even seems stronger.
I have found an old Buddha sculpture that matches the colour of the Hyacinths beautifully. For this occasion he left his place in the garden to enlighten a small still life in my living room. I love the combination of dark wood and glass with vivid intense colours. The dark colours seem to underline the warmth and bright yellow and violet tones. The simple combination of a Buddha statue with candles is enough to create a relaxing and peaceful mood in a room. A still life like this one helps me to relax in the evening when I look at the burning candles and their reflection on the Buddha :)Normally I would add an incense burner to a scene like this one. But with the lovely strong scent of the Hyacinths that isn't necessary. This combination of scenting flowers, candle light and the peaceful Buddha makes me feel happy and warm. I wish you a lovely day and a relaxed evening :))

Sources of inspiration 1

For today's post I wanted to share a great personal source of inspiration: ...... art.

I often get ideas for my colour combinations and still life arrangements (like the one above) by looking at the colour scenes in paintings. Like the beautiful painting below from Jos van Riswick

When I create still lifes, sometimes I see flashes of paintings by Dutch painters. They use colour and light so delicately and always have a certain mood. I love the still life paintings by Jan Mankes as they always move me with their fragile colours and moods. This picture is inspired by the lovely still life painting "Jasmine in a vase" by Jan Mankes. I absolutely love the intriguing moods of his paintings. The one above is from Floris Verster who's work I love dearly. His work always has something pure and dramatic in the colour palette. And above my humble version of his sublime light and colour scene :)) You can express so much just by arranging some objects, which is what I admire about making a still life.
So far today's post; less colourful as usual but I hope it could inspire you anyway. Take care and have a nice inspiring day :)))) If you have suggestions for an art still life you want to see from your inspiration source, just let me know :)

Flower arrangements; Hyacinths

Today's flowers are Hyacinths in very powerful blue and purple tones. They almost seem 'unreal' with their intense colours and fleshy green leaves.
My entire living room is filled with their intense perfume. It reminds me of my grand mother who loved these flowers for their scent. On her birthday her whole house was heavenly scenting of Hyacinths and Freesia flowers :)
This picture brings back memories of the story of Jack and the beanstalk hihi, somehow nature always provides the most beautiful gifts for my imagination :) The petals of the young flowers are blue and match beautiful with the bright green leafs. I love this cool and fresh spring combination. But this is my favourite picture; purple/violet with vibrant green and a touch of aubergine. What a combination! I wish my house was bigger so I could create a dozen more style rooms in all the colours of the rainbow :) So far this post about the lovely Hyacinth flowers. I hope you liked their vivid colours and I wish you could sniff up their intense spring fragrance. Have a colourful day :))

Thoughts over tea

Today's post is a very small one because I am tired. I have had a lovely weekend in which I have travelled a lot and saw many new things. It was very nice but now I feel the need to sit down with a cup of tea and to just relax a bit before going to sleep. Do you know the feeling when something you looked forward to for a long time just ended? To me it is difficult to let go and move on. It gives me something like a hangover. As a child I used to have that feeling after returning from a holiday or a sleep over at a friend's place. Guess I haven't changed a lot ;) So far this small post for today. Just one more cup of tea before going to bed and really ending the weekend. Take care and have a nice start of the week :)

Colour inspiration 2

This weekend I wanted to share some colour combinations with you. I get inspired by daily life colour scenes... hopefully they will inspire you too :))

The warm brown combinations are my alltime favourites. They always add warmth and something cosy to a room. They are ideal basic colours to combine with more vivid colours like bright red and yellow.

The combination of yellow and green to me is the ultimate fresh palette. It feels bright and vivid and gives energy. No wonder most people (including myself) call it the colours of spring.Pink and red is the warm exotic colour combination. These colours remind me of the stories of thousand and one night and always add something mystical to an interior. On the other hand reds are very activating colours and they should therefore be used with caution. White and light blue is a cool and balancing colour combination. Always fresh and ideal for a home with little space and light. They create a fresh and clean colour scene.Different orange tones (my personal favourites) add warmth to an interior. They adjust to light and are always very warm and cosy. Even in countries with lots of rain :))
The most important part of choosing your colour palette for your home is to consider what kind of personality you have. Are you a very vivid and constantly busy character, you could consider a balancing cool colour palette. Are you in need of warmth for your home, then the orange and brown combinations are suitable. And above that everyone changes during their lives; and so does your colour palette :)
